Wilson player and 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will be leading the BLX endorsement parade with his new Six.One Tour BLX racquet. Made from Basalt fibers.

Wilson’s newest racquet technology is called BLX, which adds basalt fibers in the racquet frame and — when combined with proprietary frame, grommet and grip technologies — produces what Wilson calls “the perfect feel.”

Basalt is a natural volcanic rock that can be used in manufacturing and made into ultrafine gold fibers that are resistant to vibrations. Basalt fibers are woven longitudinally with Wilson’s [K]arophite Black to create a composite Wilson says is the most advanced in the industry.

Like noise-cancelling headphones that filter out unwanted external noise, says Wilson, basalt added to the matrix filters the unwanted extreme frequencies in the racquet. According to the company, the new BLX technology delivers cleaner feedback and better sensation — “a smoother signal reaches the hand.”

Wilson player and 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will be leading the BLX endorsement parade with his new Six.One Tour BLX racquet. Juan Martin Del Potro, US Open winner has also switched to the new BLX family, using the Pro Tour BLX.

Basalt is rock! Volcanic rock super heated and fibers are pulled through platinum bushings that allow the threads to be put on bobbins that then get woven into our fabrics. Way cleaner than fiberglass from the start. Better on the factory workers and being from volcanos a pure product from mother earth.
Amazingly light yet super strong, Basalt is being used for making products like skis have more bounce, snowboards and skateboards and skimboards take a beating and yet hold up much better when made with basalt fibers.
Brake pads, high heat and extreme cold pipes and sleeve and belts and tubing. All way more affordable than carbon fiber and it takes impact much better than carbon and fiberglass!

Minimal Tornado Damage at Faith Chapel

On May 1, 2011, David South, president of Monolithic, contacted the administrators at Faith Chapel Christian Center (FCCC) in Birmingham, Alabama. Since the April 28 tornado ripped through their area, killing at least 65 people and destroying just about everything in its path, David wanted to know how FCCC and its congregation fared.

This morning David received an email from Meriam Franklin, Executive Administrator and wife of Pastor Byron Franklin.

In part, Meriam wrote, “The tornado cut a path through the back portion of Faith Chapel’s property, and had we not chosen to go with the Monolithic dome structure, there is no doubt that the amount of damage would have been much more significant. Pretty much all of the non-dome structures on and around our campus in the tornado’s path were either severely damaged or completely destroyed. The domes sustained minimal damage, which was for the most part cosmetic. We are on our way to our “church in Livingston”: (which was not damaged), and we’ll get back with you as soon as we can. Thanks!”
